NADF Grand Prix Results

This in from Jim O'Kelley:

Congratulations to Thomas Haver on winning the 2008 North American Diplomacy Federation Grand Prix.

Haver competed in 11 events, finishing with a score of 649.27. Haver won DixieCon and the World Boardgaming Championship, placed second at the National Block Party and GenCon, and finished third at Weasel Moot, the final stop on the tour. Haver also placed on the top boards at Origins (seventh) and Carnage (fourth).

Andy "Buffalo" Bartalone, who competed in nine events, chipped away at Haver's lead with strong showings at the Buckeye Game Fest (fourth), Tempest/DipCon (seventh) and Carnage (fourth). Buffalo, who also placed second at Dixie and fourth at the Boston Massacre, trailed by 65 points going into Weasel Moot. The PrezCon champion's comeback bid died there, however. He finished in second with 523.6 points.

Early leader Graham Woodring trailed off badly with disappointing finishes at the BADAss Whipping (14th), Dixie (11th) and the Massacre (12th), but he continued to fight the good fight, even placing third at GenCon. But he slumped in his next three events (Buckeye, Tempest and Carnage), and he was already out of contention at Weasel Moot, his 10th event. He finished seventh there, for a final score of 389.85.

Carnage champion Dave Maletsky finished fourth with a score of 357.99. Maletsky played in eight events. He'll need a new straw hat for 2009.

Rounding out the top five was Adam Sigal with a score of 349.8 in only four events. Sigal racked up huge scores with a second-place finish at HuskyCon and third place at Tempest/DipCon. He could be the player to watch in 2009.

A total of 275 players competed in the 15 qualifying events. You can check out all their scores at Laurent Joly's excellent World Diplomacy Database website: http://eurodip. nuxit.net/ php/rencontre/ affiche_circuit. php?id_circuit= 82&lang=Ang.

Thanks for supporting this year's Grand Prix. Watch for an announcement of significant structural changes to the 2009 Grand Prix, which kicks off Jan. 23 at WACCon in Seattle.
