Weasel Moot II Results

This in from Jim O'Kelley:

Here are the final Weasel Moot II results. We fielded 11 boards over the three rounds, with 35 players participating. Congratulations to Nick Rohn, our new Weasel Moot champion. Nick has been playing with the Weasels since November 2005. As champion, he's our Alpha Weasel until WM3.

Matt Sundstrom finished second; Thomas Haver of Columbus, our 2008 Grand Prix champion, finished third; Christian Kline, fourth; Rob Chase, playing in his first tournament, finished fifth; the venerable Edi Birsan of  the Bay Area was sixth; and Graham Woodring of Philadelphia was seventh.

Graham also wrapped up the inauguaral Central Shuffle championship. He traveled to Gen Con in August, the Buckeye Game Fest in October, and Weasel Moot. His name will be inscribed on the Central Shuffle Cup, and he'll receive a personalized plaque.

The Best Country Awards were:

Austria: Michael Martinez, 102 points, Round 3, Board 3.
England: Grant Smith of the Milwaukee Mafia, 180 points, Round 1, Board 4.
France: Rob Chase, 219 points, Round 1, Board 3.
Germany: Andy Bartalone of Maryland, 102 points, Round 2, Board 2.
Italy: Chris Davis (Classic Chris), 120 points, Round 2, Board 3.
Russia: Nick Rohn, 216 points, Round 2, Board 1.
Turkey: Thomas Haver, 195 points, Round 1, Board 2.

Thanks again to Greg Duenow for donating the medals for our Best Country awards.

The Players' Choice Award went to Eric Brown, while Paul Pignotti took home the Director's Choice. They both received copies of the new edition of Diplomacy, signed by Alan Calhamer.  Barry Johnson won the Best Pirate for taking Liverpool with a Turkish fleet.

And a final thank you to our tournament director and War Weasel, Jeremiah Peterson. He demonstrated this weekend that he's eminently qualifed for the job, and we're lucky to have him.

In other news, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Calhamer were our special guests Saturday morning. Mr. Calhamer, Diplomacy's designer, chatted with a number of players and observed and commented on the games. At one point at my board, someone named me, as the club's founder, as the reason we were gathered. I turned and pointed at Mr. Calhamer and said, "No, he's the reason we're all here." He seemed to like that.

Also, we adopted a club charter, so the Sneak is now official. We'll post the charter to the Yahoo group soon.

Watch the list for an announcement of our next club games. We expect to offer a Guthrie's game and a house game next month.
