French Diplomacy Championship, December 12th through December 14th

This in from Laurent Joly:

XXIIIrd French Championship of Diplomacy 2008
From Saturday the 13rd to Sunday the 14th of Decembre 2008
Gunboat Tournament, Friday the 12nd et Saturday 13rd of Decembre
2008

[Diplomacy] Like in 2007, the 23rd French Championship of
Diplomacy will take place in this year 2008 inside Paris, in
Saint-Germain- des-Prés, on December 12nd, 13rd and 14th 2008.
The hotel La Louisiane host the convention on the 60 rue de
Seine, in Paris, for the pleasure of everyone.

The tournament will take place over the entire third floor of the
hotel with boards across the cafeteria, meeting room, but also
several rooms specially fitted out for negotiation. Rediscover
the pleasure that some players have in the friendly game of
Diplomacy, the diplomacy in the room and behind the scenes, each
time away from prying eyes and ears too curious. We will propose
a bar with sandwiches and drinks.

The 23rd French Championship of Diplomacy is not a simple
tournament where the only slogan could be: I want to win, I want
to win. What would the game Diplomacy without all the good
moments of good humor and companionship which follow to each
game. To do this, the organisation proposes a programme that will
make the weekend unforgettable.

[Diplomacy] Meet us on Friday evening between 18:00 and 00:00
at the hotel La Louisiane for a nice party which will open the
championship. You can discover or rediscover the area and
participate to the first rounds of the Gunboat tournament, quick
games without negotiations. A drink will be offered during the
opening party of the convention.

On Saturday morning starts the French Championship of Diplomacy.
Two rounds take place this Saturday, the first round from 9:15 to
13:30 and the second round from 16:00 to 20:00. Lunch break, it's
time to breathe, to enjoy a good meal and replay 7 times the game
with all the good faith that characterizes good players of
Diplomacy. You will also have the opportunity to participate to
the third and final round of the Gunboat tournament too. The
second round, on Saturday afternoon, will be the big rendez-vous
of the tournament, the team round.

[Diplomacy] The evening will be the time to pack the boards and
knives. To spend a good night in Paris, we suggest you to go in a
good restaurant together followed by the discovery of many bars
which have made the legend of Saint-Germain- des-Prés. If you
want an evening game to relax yourself, the area reserved for the
tournament will be available. Bring to Paris your boardgames,
strategy games or favorite card games.

Sunday morning after a long or short night, it's time to play.
The third qualifying round will begin at 9:00. Becarful, you can
play only 2 of 3 qualifying rounds without being penalized in the
ranking (see Rules of the French Championship of Diplomacy 2008
<http://www.champion nat-de-france. org/rules. php?lang= Ang> ). If
you played both rounds on Saturday, you are free to sleep late,
to visit Paris, to play other games or for enthusiasts to
participate to the third qualifying round. If you didn't play on
Saturday or if you had a disastrous fate on Saturday, come to
defend your chance and have a good time around a board of
Diplomacy.

[Diplomacy] At 13:45, when the final round will start, the
pressure will be higher. The seven best players, who have shown
the best diplomatic skill, are going to measure their own
strength in the unbearable suspense of the top board. The goal
will be the title of 23rd French champion of Diplomacy. The other
players could participate in this final round to improve their
ranking, which could even enable them to get a place on the
podium, as Arnaud Daina in 2007, or simply for the pleasure of
playing a last good game of Diplomacy in 2008.

The Award Ceremony will take place at 18:30, the time of
happiness and disappointment!

Get ready to join us, and register now to the twenty-third French
