Two Upcoming Swedish Events

GothCon

GothCon is a two-faced diplomacy event in Gothenburg, Sweden taking place on March 21-23. Two-faced you ask? Well, the first "face" is the beginner's event where the main intention is to attract newcomers to the hobby. The idea is to before every game explain the rules and then give some tactical and strategical advice. Afterwards they will be allowed to play under supervision by one or more experienced players who will merely provide the level of support that the players ask. This is intended to give them a slow-paced game that they are able to explore on
their own, hopefully boosing the interest.

The other "face" is the experienced players event which will be mainly a social event - playing gunboat diplomacy or any interesting variant chosen on site depending on interest. There will not be an official tournament. Any player who feels up for it may also sign up as a coach for the beginners.

LinCon

What: NDC 2008. The major diplomacy event in Sweden this year is held at the LinCon games convention. Also a step of the European GP. The scoring system used will be C-diplo and times for each round will be set soon.
The intention is to plan the rounds to allow the players to take part in some of the many other activities at the convention or do some sightseeing, nightclubbing or whatever they like between the rounds.

Where: Linköping, Sweden

When: May 1-4

Cost: 200 SEK for preregistered players or foreigners (approx €20).  300 for late registered swedes.

How to get there by flight: Stockholm/Skavsta (NYO) is the nearest RyanAir airport with direct bus links to Linköping. Or of course the Linkoping airport (LPI) which has regular connections to Amsterdam and
Copenhagen. You can also go via Stockholm airport (ARN) or Copenhagen airport (CPH) and then take the train bound for Linkoping, but that's often a more expensive solution.

How to get there by train: From Copenhagen or Malmo is quite cheap if buy the ticket early on www.sj.se. Train is bound for Stockholm.

How to get there by car: You are probably coming via Denmark, so either take the ferry from Helsingor (in Denmark) to Helsingborg (in Sweden) or take the bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo (easier but more expensive).
From there head towards Helsingborg and there enter highway road E4 from Helsingborg towards Stockholm. (You can probably follow the signs to Stockholm all the way from Denmark). You can't miss Linkoping, it's on the way from Europe to Stockholm.
